The Fort ships were Canadian built of
various types
and were mostly riveted.. In 1941 an agreement was reached between Canada
and the U.S.A for America to purchase 90 Canadian built ships and transfer
them to Britain under the lease - lend agreement. Some of these ships were
lost during the war and the remainder returned to the U.S. Maritime Commission
after the war.
